The Dance Your Style competition is a dance battle that brings people together to celebrate dance, music and performance, and aims to recreate the lively social party atmosphere from which all street dance styles originated.

The competition format relies heavily on the DJ and the audience: The DJ curates a playlist featuring various music genres to test the dancers’ versatility in adapting their dance styles to the beat.

The audience acts as the judging panel, using voting cards to determine the winners of each battle round.

Matlamela said being part of the Limpopo final was a mind-blowing experience.

“I am so happy and the support that I have received throughout the competition was awesome. When I first started dancing, I was doing it for fun, but now I can see that there is a future in dancing. The competition was tough, but I managed to win, even though my contenders were more skillful.”

Red Bull Dance Your Style host, Hungani Ndlovu said his job was just to curate, as the audience were the ones who voted.
