Rural sporting event brings young and old together
Makhado Mayor, Dorcus Mboyi, emphasised the importance of education and said sport without an education meant nothing.
LIMPOPO – The rural community sporting event which included young and old, organised by the Department of Sport at Mulima (Tshitale area) this weekend was a huge success.
Participants enjoyed netball and soccer, with many teams participating in the well-attended event.
The director of Sport in Vhembe, Collins Thovhakale said sport provided many positive opportunities for the community.
“Good sportsmanship provides guidelines that can be generalised to the classroom and lifelong achievement. It also teaches children to function in a competitive society,” he said.

Through sport, residents can learn values such as discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, sacrifice and accountability. “It is up to the municipality, parents, teachers, sports teams and schools to help mould, develop and instil these qualities in the lives of young people.”
He said that the department was proud to host the event. “The importance of sport in the lives of young people is invaluable and goes much further than the basic answer that it keeps kids off the streets. It also instils lessons that are essential in life in general.”
Makhado Mayor, Dorcus Mboyi, emphasised the importance of education and said sport without an education meant nothing. “You can be a star today and be written off the next day. Education will never forsake you, you can bank on it.”
