Sepedi artist Judgement sings his way through failure
Turfloop rapper Judgement says he does not allow life's challenges to get him down, instead he uses them as a source of motivation.
POLOKWANE – Adding a poetic touch to his music is what Phillimon Shading, popularly known as Judgement, is good at.
The Turfloop (Ga-Magongwa) star is a jack of all trades as he is a rapper, vocalist, poet, producer of various music genres and a marketing and communication student at the Capricorn TVET college.
His love for music and poetry started during his childhood when he was a dancer for the Hlokwa la tsela gospel music group and later used his love for writing poems as a driving force to write lyrics.
Judgement explained that his love for music was also influenced by various artists including Mopedy.
He writes his music is in his mother tongue Sepedi and uses it as a tool to convey messages to his target listeners.
“I saw that many artists prefer to rap in English and I opted for Sepedi because I find the best way of conveying a message to people is through a language that they understand well,” he said.
A common challenge he encounters is not having enough funds to market his music and not having frequent gigs.
He further stated that he does not allow his challenges to get him down, instead he uses them as a source of motivation to push further.
He advised the youth, especially those who want to venture into the music industry, to always try and fail, rather than failing without trying.
He concluded by saying that “creativity is key in the music industry; most importantly give everything your all.”
