Mass power outage leaves several Polokwane suburbs in the dark

In addition water supply to the Annadale area will also be affected as well as the Water Purification Plant in Ladanna. 

POLOKWANE – Several suburbs in the city have been left in the dark due to a fault at the Alpha Substation.

The Polokwane Municipality said an earth wire broke on the high voltage supply line that also feeds the Gamma, Delta and Iota Substations.

The following areas have been affected:

  • Industria
  • Ladanna
  • Eduan Park
  • Bendor
  • Sterpark
  • Serala View
  • Fauna Park
  • Parts of Flora Park
  • Mall of the North
  • Savannah Mall
  • Thornhill

In addition, municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said water supply to the Annadale area will also be affected as well as the Water Purification Plant in Ladanna.

“The municipality’s maintenance team is assessing the damage. Regular updates will be provided once the team has established the extent of damage and estimated time of power restoration. All affected areas are advised to treat all electrical wiring as live and to switch off all appliances as live to avoid injury and damage when power supply is restored,” his statement read.
