Mourners pay last respect to slain Lim security officer

Tinyiko Baloyi had left home to work at the Waterval satellite office on April 18, but never reached her place of work.

LIMPOPO-Hundreds of mourners from all corners of the Vhembe region, mostly members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu), gathered in the council chambers of the Vhembe District Municipality in Thohoyandou on May 10 to attend the memorial service of a former employee attached to the security unit, Tinyiko Venus Baloyi (44).

The acting municipal manager, Cedrick Tshikovha and the chairperson of Samwu in Vhembe, Kate Mavhungu were among those who came to pay their lasts respects.

Baloyi, from Bungeni village near Elim, worked as a security officer for the municipality, and her body was discovered with serious injuries in the Hillside area in Waterval on April 22.

She had left home to work at the Waterval satellite office on April 18, but never reached her place of work.

Her family then reported her missing.

At the service, speaker after speaker described the late Baloyi as a hard worker and a caring mother for her children.

Tinyiko Venus Baloyi, who worked as a security guard attached to the Vhembe District Municipality, was buried in Bungeni village near Waterval on May 13.

A family representative, Mzamani Maluleke said they still have many questions after “a defenceless woman who was on her way to working to support her children” was so brutally murdered.

“Her death has left a void that will not easily be filled, as she was her family’s breadwinner.

“Our last hope is for the police to track down the killers who committed this brutal killing, and which left her children without someone to care for them.”

Pastor Ali Mahundla of His Presence Church, the local church that Baloyi attended, described her as a staunch and disciplined member of his church and a person who would give to the needy.

One of her children, Mbuyelo Mathebula said life will be tough following the death of his mother.

Baloyi was buried on May 13 in Bungeni village, and is survived by three children.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that a passerby discovered her body, which had multiple wounds to the head.

“A missing person’s report has been changed to that of attempted murder,” he confirmed.
