Another breakdown to affect water supply in Polokwane

Raw water pumps at the Olifantspoort plant are currently being repaired and will be reinstalled on Friday (June 23).

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality says the already strained water supply system will be negatively affected by yet another breakdown at the Olifantspoort Plant.

Communication from Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) reports a breakdown at the plant’s raw water pumps and will affect supply to all areas within the municipality.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said LNW have committed to bringing operations back to normal as the pumps have been sent in for repairs.

“They are expected to be brought back to the plant on Friday (June 23) and be installed upon their arrival,” his statement read.

Meanwhile, Selala said temporary relief will be provided in the form of water tankers to all affected areas.

“Normal supply will be restored once LNW has sorted the challenge by the estimated date. The municipality will provide regular updates on progress in terms of repairs and supply restoration,” he said.

Selala also urged customers receiving water to use it sparingly.
