Amelia’s hobby ensures green finger success
The owner of PlantAmal Amelia Grobbelaar has turned her hobby into a business with the support of her loving husband and children.
POLOKWANE- Amelia Grobbelaar’s business allows her to live her dream and do what she loves most.
For Grobbelaar, the owner of PlantAmal, her love for collecting succulents and making decorative terrariums and succulent arrangements has become a profitable hobby. She said that growing up in a family that loves gardening and plants, made it easy for her to do what she does.
She has now turned her hobby into a business with support from her loving husband and children.
“After making a couple of arrangements in glass containers, I was thrilled when my family and friends loved it. So, I made more. Growing, arranging, and loving succulents and cactuses comes naturally to me, and I even though I did not receive any formal training, I still learn every day. I thank God for this blessing,” she said.
She founded PlantAmal in March last year, and exhibited her products at a market for the first time in April.
She often does research on the internet to gain as much information as she can about the craft. The internet also serves as a source of inspiration. “A trip to any nursery or a well-kept garden also inspires me,” she said.
She tries to exhibit at as many markets in and around Polokwane as possible, as it helps grow her business and creates awareness. Her biggest challenge as an entrepreneur is knowing what people want and love. As remedy to this, she has learned that variety is best.
Although she is not on social media platforms, she can be reached at 083 785 3388 for both WhatsApp and call; also on email at ameliagrobbelaar24@gmail.com. “People can contact me for all their succulent and cactus requirements – individual plants or arrangements. As soon as I have a social media platform, I will spread the news on Facebook groups and WhatsApp where I often advertise,” she said.
