Assist APD by hosting your next event there

The Association for Persons with Disabilities asks the community to assist by keeping them in mind when in need of a venue to host an event.

POLOKWANE- Non-profit organisations offer a simple solution for those who want to do community work, but do not know where to get involved and one such organisation is the Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD).

Besides donating money, food or clothing, you can also assist by keeping them in mind when you need a venue to host an event. Some years ago, APD built a hall which can easily be converted inside to cater for any number of people between 10 and 300.

“This space is ideal for workshops, weddings, graduations, conferences, meetings and other events. There are also rooms that cater for two people up to families. Each room is fitted with a TV screen, and DStv and there are 24 hour security,” says Desiree Herb, co-director of APD. The facility also caters for functions.

The catering service is available from breakfast to dinner and platters or buffet meals can also be ordered.

Another way to support the APD, is to pay a visit to the APD Clothing Shop, where you can find affordable, pre-loved clothing for everyone in the family. They also sell shoes and toys.

Casual Day is celebrated on September 1, and this year stickers will once again be sold in an effort to support the facility.

This year’s theme is Share a Smile and stickers cost R20 each. Other merchandise will also be on sale.

By supporting APD Limpopo, you support people living with disabilities.

APD’s offices are located on the same premises as Centenary House, where 54 residents with disabilities are housed.

Along with them, there are 25 day visitors who work in the workshop daily.

Desiree explains that there are plans to upgrade the workshop, and a newly form parent forum will assist with plans to raise money for the organisation.

Churches and other support organisations visit residents regularly.

“Our running costs are very high. We have an electricity issue that we struggle to clear at the municipality with a bill of R1m, but we are blessed to receive food donations daily,” she added.
