Among the first to publicly announce condolences was President Cyril Ramaphosa who named ‘Maggie’, a “community-focused leader who dedicated herself to the development and dignity of the people of Limpopo through housing opportunities, food security and support to people with disabilities”.

Maggie served as the patron of Limpopo First Lady Trust since 2013, which provides wheelchairs and food parcels to disadvantaged families and builds houses for them. She is survived by her husband and three children.

According to her husband’s spokesperson, Willy Mosoma, she managed to mobilise resources which resulted in the successful building for houses to disadvantaged families, distribution of food parcels and wheelchairs.

Through her “empower a girl child” campaign, various local schools benefitted from sanitary towels dating as far back as 2018.

In the last couple of years, she celebrated Women’s Day with female inmates, sharing gifts and offering advice at the Polokwane Correctional Centre.

She was laid to rest on Friday during a funeral service at the Uniting Reformed Church of Southern Africa in Serala View.

Mosoma says the Mathabatha family extend their appreciation to relatives, friends and the public for their continued support in this time of bereavement.

“May the soul of Mma Maggie Mathabatha rest in peace,” he concluded.
