Major drop in temperature expected in Polokwane this week

Another cold front is expected to bring sub-polar air to the country this week resulting in weekend highs of 13ºC to 16ºC.

POLOKWANE – Another cold front is expected to bring cold conditions to South Africa this week with low temperatures expected in the city on Friday.

Last week, the country experienced icy cold conditions after a cold front brought sub-polar air along with it.

Popular weather page ‘The Weather Girls’, a TikTok account run by meteorologists Annette Botha and Michelle Cordier for Vox Weather, state that the cold front will reach the Western Cape on Tuesday with a secondary front just behind it.

This cold front is expected to bring another bout of sub-polar air with it.

“We are not sure yet whether an upper level trough or cut-off low will develop which could likely bring scattered to widespread showers across the country with a steep drop in temperature,” Botha said.

How will this affect Polokwane?

The week will start off with mild conditions as maximum temperatures are expected in the mid twenties before reaching the mid to low teens from Thursday onward.

Monday to Wednesday will peak between 24ºC and 25ºC with pleasant conditions before dropping to a breezy and cool 16ºC on Thursday.

Friday’s maximum temperature will be a high of 13ºC with an 18% chance of rain.

According to AccuWeather, Friday’s daytime temperature will feel like 11ºC with wind speeds of up to 20km/h.

Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high of 16ºC and conditions will clear and warm up to 25ºC on Sunday.

Minimum temperatures will range between 2ºC and 7ºC this week.
