Rain and thunderstorms forecast in Polokwane this week

Rain, thunderstorms and a drop in temperature is expected in the city of Polokwane this week as an intense spring cut-off low exits the country.

POLOKWANE – The effect of an intense spring cut-off low that affected large parts of South Africa this heritage weekend will likely reach the city of Polokwane from Wednesday.

Widespread rain and thunderstorms have been forecast for the city bringing cooler temperatures along with it.

The South African Weather Service says cut-off lows are notorious for causing widespread severe weather such as flooding, heavy rainfall, and severe thunderstorms.

AccuWeather has forecast a 95% chance of rain on Wednesday with a maximum high of 19ºC.

Morning thunderstorms are expected on Thursday with a 61% chance of rain and a high of 23ºC before conditions improve on Friday with maximum temperatures of 29ºC.

The weekend will be hot and mostly sunny with maximum temperatures ranging from 29ºC to 33ºC with little to no rain forecast.

Minimum temperatures will range between 10ºC and 15ºC this week with windy conditions expected on Wednesday.
