Small cleaning services keep his business thriving
Some of the highlights of Hope Malatji's business career have been securing government projects and completing them in record time.
POLOKWANE – Small’s Cleaning Service, a business started by Hope Malatji before the Covid-19 lockdown, is going from strength to strength.
The business, he said, was initially a car wash, but he had to adapt when the pandemic hit.
“At the time, business was not doing well and it cost too much to keep it afloat. I went back to the drawing board and started a cleaning business by washing windows and offering other small cleaning services.”
He said he received funding from the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) for machinery, which helped him to be able to take on bigger clients.
He currently employs 12 people and has increased his scope of work. “We currently have 124 clients who are regulars.”
Some of the highlights of his business career have been securing government projects and completing them in record time.
No business is, however, without challenges, he said, and often procurement systems come in the way of smooth sailing.
“The requirements if you want to tender for long term projects, especially if you don’t have experience, can be tough.”
In addition, customers often want to dictate pricing, he added.
A highlight has been the completion of two big projects from the Department of Treasury and the Office of the Premier, which he says shows that he can manage any project.
