Concerted efforts by the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism in the sector have reaped rewards with national acknowledgement by government.

POLOKWANE – With its focus on tourism, hospitality and consumer studies, the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism has been awarded the Province of the Year by the National Department of Tourism.

Known for its vast scenic regions and wildlife, Limpopo’s rich cultural history has made it a leading tourist attraction for many.

Departmental spokesperson Zaid Kalla said the award was given for outstanding commitment towards inspiring and uplifting the youth to think outside the box and pursue sustainable livelihoods in tourism through innovation, entrepreneurship and government-led programmes.

The award was given at the National Tourism Career Expo which is a platform that provides an opportunity for information sharing among tourism curricula experts and stakeholders with teachers and learners on the diverse careers available in the sector.

“The efforts displayed by the Limpopo tourism sector is structured in such a way that it transforms and strengthens competitiveness. Limpopo tourism career expos are aimed at empowering and enticing the youth into pursuing professions within the industry and we are currently working on intensifying collaboration between all government and private tourism sector role-players,” he said.
