Reservoir levels remain low following Olifantspoort shutdown

The Polokwane Municipality anticipates the water situation to improve as soon as Lepelle Northern Water works on building pressure to Polokwane.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality says power supply has been restored to the Olifantspoort Plant and that water is pumping.

The plant was switched off for the second time in a week and a half on Tuesday due to power issues that had to be resolved by Eskom, leaving a large part of the city without supply as a result.

“As at 20:50 last night, reservoir levels were still at their lowermost with Potgieter 50Ml, Krugersburg 30Ml Flat, Ivydale and Seshego sitting at 0% while the 30Ml Dome is at 5%,” municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said.

He added that the municipality anticipates the situation to improve soon as Lepelle Northern Water works on building up pressure to Polokwane.

“Areas receiving supply are urged to use water sparingly,” he said.

POLOKWANE – Water supply to the city will once again be affected due to another shutdown of the Olifantspoort Plant.

The Polokwane Municipality reports that Eskom has switched off the line that supplies electricity to the plant to attend to a voltage drop affecting its production.

The announcement, municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said, was made by Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) hours after it was switched off.

“It was anticipated that power supply would have been restored within three hours from the switch off but the power utility is still busy with repairs,” Selala’s statement read.

This is the second, last-minute announcement by LNW regarding a shutdown at the plant in the space of a few weeks after water supply was interrupted by a 12-hour shutdown on September 21.

The shutdown was also due to urgent repair work by Eskom.
