Security guards injured in Lebowakgomo hardware store robbery

Two security guards were tied up and beaten with a garden spade and iron rod in a business robbery at a hardware store in Lebowakgomo this week.

POLOKWANE – The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered the swift arrest of two unknown suspects responsible for a business robbery at a hardware store in Lebowakgomo on Wednesday afternoon.

A manhunt has since been launched for the duo who are said to have left two security guards severely injured.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the guards were patrolling the premises when the two suspects held them at gunpoint, tied them up and beat them with a garden spade and iron rod.

“The following day, one of the employees discovered the victims and informed the police and emergency services. They were both taken to a local hospital since they were severely injured,” his statement read.

Ledwaba added that a case of business robbery was opened and initial investigations revealed a Nissan UD truck loaded with cement was stolen along with other equipment valued at over R300 000.

“Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects can contact the investigating officer Colonel Mmapitsi Sekotlong on 082 565 8426, the crime stop number on 086000 10111, at the nearest police station or via the MySAPSApp,” he said.
