POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality says power supply to parts of Flora Park will be restored later today as a maintenance team is still busy with repairs.
A power outage affecting Tamarisk, Hauptfleisch, Robinia and other surrounding streets in Flora Park has left residents in the dark since Sunday.
Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said the outage is due to cables that burnt inside a miniature substation that supplies users in the affected streets.

“Power remains off in the area. The team is busy working on fixing the mini sub and restoring supply to all affected users. It should be on later in the day,” he told the Polokwane Observer.
Selala further urged residents and businesses to avoid throwing garbage next to or inside any service infrastructure and to use garbage bins or plastic bags and place them in demarcated areas for collection.

When asked whether the garbage was the reason for a fire that caused the cable damage, Selala said they cannot rule out the possibility.
“All affected users are advised to treat all electrical wiring as live and to switch off all appliances for the duration of the outage to avoid injury and damage when supply is restored,” he said.
