Championship boerewors finalist makes province proud

Inspired to share her recipe with other South Africans, first-time entrant Mshasheni Mabotja from Rainbow Park was one of the top 10 finalists in this year’s competition.

POLOKWANE – First-time finalist in the 2023 Shoprite and Checkers Championship Boerewors competition, Mshasheni Mabotja from Rainbow Park, surely made the province proud even though she did not win top honours in the recent competition.

“I’m happy and delighted that I was able to represent my province through something that I’m truly passionate about. I believe that we learn from every loss and every mistake we make in life, and this was a learning curve for me, in a fun way too. It was such a great experience to meet talented chefs from all around the country.

“I made new friends and I will definitely enter such competitions more regularly. A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who supported me thus far and everyone who has been behind me all the way,” Mabotja said.

The annual search for South Africa’s tastiest boerewors came to a close with the Western Cape’s Tyron Adams claiming top honours as the winner of the 2023 Championship Boerewors Competition and as of September 8, his boerewors is available in Shoprite and Checkers stores all over the country, for the rest of the year.

Additional congratulations to the competitions’ runners-up Eddie Hawkes and Gustav Piek.

“Well done to all the winners. You were all indeed good sports and it was a great pleasure to cook alongside all of you,” Mabotja said.
