POLOKWANE – Renovations are currently underway at the Limpopo SAVF old age home based in Hoog Street.
The home’s new management, which assumed office in September, took up the challenge to upgrade the Martha Homeyr facility and install power alternatives for outage periods.
In order to fund the renovations, the home is exploring other alternatives besides the two annual bazaars which serve as fundraising initiatives.
The home’s Marietjie Smit said they are excited about the journey, especially under the care of the new matron, Tiffany Langner who was appointed on October 1.
“In terms of accommodation, all the rooms will be fitted with their own shower and toilet. We are also looking to change our four-bedroom units in the frail care section to two-bedroom units to make it more user friendly.”
She added that a new nurses station in ward A and B, with a new nurses call centre will be established, while the installation of their solar system was completed two weeks ago.
On Saturday, the home had a sale where various items were sold by outsourced and local exhibitors. From the 21 independent stalls and 10 of their own, Smit told Polokwane Observer that R51 000 was raised.
“We would like to thank everybody who participated in the Lentemark. We could not have done it without you,” she added.
