Seshego man gunned down outside his Zone 3 house

Henry 'Pizza' Meela died on the scene after it emerged that he was followed home by a minibus taxi last Thursday night.

POLOKWANE – The Seshego police have confirmed that cases of murder and attempted murder have been opened following the death of a man who was shot and killed at his home on Thursday evening in Seshego Zone 3.

The deceased, identified by witnesses close to the Polokwane Observer and police as Henry ‘Pizza’ Meela was gunned down in front of his home just after getting out of his vehicle. His friend who accompanied him sustained serious injuries.

“Preliminary investigations suggest Meela’s vehicle was followed by a minibus taxi to his house and was shot multiple times in the face. Meela died on the scene, according to emergency services while his friend was admitted to hospital.

Neighbouring witnesses said they were alarmed by gunshots at around 21:15 and immediately went out to find a taxi taking off, with two men on the floor in the same spot confirmed by police. Several bullet cartridges could be seen on the ground with victims bleeding profusely, they said.

Meanwhile, social media condolences have been pouring in for Meela, who some residents in the township were fond of.

Preparations for his funeral service are underway.

The Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association (SPTA) has distanced itself from the use of a taxi for the crime in their area of operation.
