POLOKWANE – Kabelo Peter Duba (34), the Polokwane traffic officer who was charged with the murder of his partner, a local student last year, was again denied bail when he made his second appearance in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court last week.

Duba is furthermore accused of the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and theft.

Kedidimetse Moshie’s body was discovered under a bridge along the R37 to Lebowakgomo on August 17 last year.

Days later, the police positively linked Duba to the crime, with spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba confirming that an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and Moshie’s cell phone were found at Duba’s place of residence.

ANCWL Limpopo calls for Polokwane Magistrate’s Court to abandon the bail application of Kabelo Peter Duba.

He was denied bail during his first court appearance on August 4.

While the investigation continues, organisations such as the Limpopo ANC Women’s League, students from the Tshwane University of Technology (Polokwane campus) and civil society organisations supported the cause through demonstrations with placards stating their protest against bail being granted.

At the time of Duba’s arrest, provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe stated that they would ensure that the perpetrator of the crime is brought to book.

“Gender-based violence and femicide remain a top priority for the police, and incidents like these are disturbing and shameful as they compromise the integrity of the law enforcement agencies. We shall make sure that the perpetrators rots in jail for committing such a brutal murder,” she said.
