Ramahantsha Day a huge success
Vhamusanda Vho Ntsundeni Sinthumule encouraged the people of Ramahantsha to continue preserving the Vhavenda and Bapedi traditions.
LIMPOPO – Various cultural groups showed up in their numbers at Munau Primary School to celebrate Ramahantsha Day in style on November 4.
The day started with a 7 km fun walk for the elderly from Ravele to Ramahantsha, and throughout the day, guests were entertained by traditional and modern dancers of all ages.
One of the organisers, Wilson Mulabisano, commended the community for coming up with the initiative. He said a need existed to teach young children about the value and importance of celebrating one’s culture.
“Culture and tradition are the foundations on which the prosperity of a nation is built. It is important to continue with initiatives of this nature for the sake of our children,” he said.
Addressing guests, Vhamusanda Vho Ntsundeni Sinthumule said the traditional leaders were serious about restoring culture and indigenous knowledge. He encouraged the people of Ramahantsha to continue preserving the Vhavenda and Bapedi traditions. “We must protect our culture and traditions and go back to how we used to do things, which includes our traditional dances such as the tshigombela, malende, tshikhamba, nanga and tshikona. What the people of Ramahantsha do here today is very important.”
Sinthumule encouraged people to stand united in the fight against crime, especially child abductions, which he said had become rife in the area lately. He appealed to the youth to respect elderly people and criticised parents who do not teach their children their vernacular language.
