COGHSTA MEC assist 20 000 Nkuzana households with water

LIMPOPO – COGHSTA MEC Basikopo Makamu on November 3 officially opened the R3m Water Tanks and Taps Project at Nkuzana village. Approximately 20 000 households in the village and surrounding communities now have access to clean, running water.
The project, which started in March this year, came after the Nkuzana traditional council sold some of their land for development, the proceeds of which were used for the water project and facilitated by the Nkuzana Community Development Trust.
Traditional leader Hosi Hlukani Nkuzana said the new boreholes and water tanks would enhance the quality of life of all the residents.

“With water at their doorsteps, our people won’t have to travel long distances in search of water any longer. The community used to collect water from the rivers as there was no water in the area, but that is now a thing of the past.”
One of the residents, Joyce Manganyi, expressed her relief at having clean running water at her disposal. “We relied on water tankers most of the time, sometimes only once a week, but it was not enough. Today, we are very thankful.”
Vhembe Mayor Dowelani Nenguda urged residents to take care of the water infrastructure.
“We are ready to change the lives of our communities for the better, and as the water-services authority, we will not rest until our communities receive better services. Stealing and tampering with equipment will disrupt the project’s progress, so please take care of it,” he said.
