Newly appointed Vhembe mayor to make water a priority
Tsakani Freda Nkondo expressed concern about the poor audit opinion the district has been receiving saying it was imperative for all.
LIMPOPO – The newly elected Vhembe Mayor, Tsakani Freda Nkondo has pledged to provide clean, drinkable water and sanitation to the communities.
Nkondo was elected on November 16 during a Vhembe special council meeting days after former Mayor, Dowelani Nenguda vacated his position to later be elected as Speaker.
“Our mandate is to cater for the needs of the people as entrenched in the constitution of the country. We want Vhembe residents to have their most basic needs met and we will work with traditional leaders as they are custodians of the people in their communities,” said Nkondo.
According to Nkondo, the municipality, in its quest to provide water, applauds the success of their predecessors up to date.

The current issues facing the municipality, she said, is the high rate of unemployment, especially among young people, crime, gender-based violence and tribalism.
Nkondo said as soon as she assumed office, she will appoint a Social Development committee in all local municipalities which will help to detect challenges the communities face.
She expressed concern about the poor audit opinion the district has been receiving, saying it was imperative for all, including employees and municipal officials to apply preventative manners, which will help the district comply with the Municipal’s System Act in order to obtain a clean outcome.
Nkondo appointed full time members of the mayoral committees, and Myelani Chauke as the head of finance, Samuel Munyai (former Makhado mayor) will lead technical services, Joyce Bila local economic development and planning, Joyce Mukwevho corporate services and Rose Mathukha, community services.
