VIDEO: Chaos erupts at ANC Peter Mokaba conference
Tensions flared at the ANC Peter Mokaba Conference as delegates protested alleged bogus members shortly after opening remarks by provincial leadership.
POLOKWANE – The ANC’s 10th Peter Mokaba Regional Conference got off to a tense start at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex this afternoon, after a brief opening address by ANC Limpopo deputy chairperson Florence Radzilani.
Radzilani, who delivered her speech on behalf of provincial chairperson Stanley Mathabatha, called on delegates to put the interests of the organisation above personal ambition.
Her remarks were aimed at unifying the region amid ongoing factional tensions.
However, minutes after her address, chaos erupted on the conference floor.
Several delegates stood up, raising concerns about the alleged presence of bogus delegates and a shortage of seats.
ANC Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) member Thabo Mokone attempted to calm the situation.
When tensions escalated further, he called on security to intervene and restore order.
This dramatic turn followed a week of uncertainty and legal wrangling.
The conference had faced delays after five party members launched an urgent interdict to halt proceedings, citing unresolved branch-level disputes.
The Limpopo High Court; Polokwane Division dismissed the interdict on Thursday night, allowing the conference to proceed as planned.
Despite the legal green light, the atmosphere remains fraught, with credibility concerns and allegations of manipulation continuing to overshadow the event.
