Solly Galane murder trial resumes with crime scene inspection

The murder trial of Solly Galane resumes Thursday with a crime scene visit after his account of the night Phuti Mamabolo died in Seshego.

POLOKWANE – The murder trial of Solly Galane is set to continue in the Limpopo High Court in Polokwane on Thursday.

Galane took the stand last Friday and was cross-examined by the state. He gave his account of the events on the night Phuti Mamabolo, his ex-girlfriend, was fatally struck by a vehicle in June 2022 in Zone 6 in Seshego.

According to Galane, the two had an argument at a venue called Secret Location, during which he pushed Mamabolo before leaving.

Later that night, while driving on a narrow road where two vehicles could not pass, he encountered four women walking, appearing intoxicated.

Galane claimed that one of the women pushed someone towards his car, causing an accidental collision. Fearing retaliation from the community, he fled the scene.

After arriving home, a friend called to inform him that the person he had hit was his ex-girlfriend. Following this, Galane packed his belongings and travelled to Lebowakgomo to consult a traditional healer.

On Thursday, the judge, prosecutor, defence attorney, Galane, and the investigating officer plan to visit the crime scene to assess the area before court proceedings resume.

Regarding an outstanding warrant of arrest issued when Galane missed a previous court appearance due to an aching tooth, the Lentswe Laka Foundation, a gender-based violence organisation, explained the warrant would only have been enforced if he failed to appear last Friday.
