Earthquakes of this magnitude are considered minor and occur occasionally in South Africa, often linked to mining activities or natural tectonic shifts in the region. A magnitude 2.4 quake is typically only detected by seismographs and is rarely felt by people on the surface.

Authorities have confirmed that no infrastructure damage or injuries have been reported in Praktiseer or surrounding areas such as Burgersfort or Ohrigstad.
