PEPPS landscaper’s job inspires his creativity

David Malesa explained that he earned the trust of the school to take the reins and create beautiful gardens because he took great initiative when he first joined the team.

POLOKWANE – David Malesa says his job inspires his creativity.

He is one of the longest serving landscapers at PEPPS Preparatory School and College, having joined the school in 2009.

He says he has not looked back.

“My job involves a lot of creativity I enjoy the feeling of bringing to life new ideas. There is a tremendous amount of satisfaction that comes from walking around the school and seeing what new things we can implement to make sure that the school is in good condition. I feel proud to know that the beauty that you see around the school is the work of my hands,” he said.

Malesa explained that he earned the trust of the school to take the reins and create beautiful gardens because he took great initiative when he first joined the team. He was fortunate that they were impressed with his work, he said.

“A usual day at work involves arriving and meeting with the team to discuss which areas need improvement. We then plan what we are going to do, and we manage the upkeep of the other gardens around the school, cutting the grass, weeding and much more. We do many tasks in a day.”

Although he feels his age is catching up with him, he remains passionate about getting the job done and teaching the younger ones in the team.

“I am teaching the young ones because I can feel that I am now old, and I must prepare them for the time that I will retire. Even though I still have many years to come, they must one day keep up the standard that has been set for them,” he concluded.
