Providing safety for Noordskool learners gives Serite purpose
Serite Morukhuladi has been working as a point duty officer at Noordskool since 2016 and says saving learners' lives is her first priority and pride.
POLOKWANE – To control traffic flow and to help Laerskool Pietersburg-Noord (Noordskool) learners cross the road safely onto the school premises, Serite Morukhuladi is at their service every morning and after school.
Morukhuladi has been working as a points duty officer at Noordskool since 2016 and says saving learners’ lives is her first priority and pride.
“I genuinely enjoy my role as it allows me to play a crucial part in ensuring their safety. Knowing that my actions help and protect young lives and create a safer environment is incredibly fulfilling and the daily interaction with learners, their parents and motorists provides a sense of community which I find gratifying. My work keeps me active and interesting,” she said.
She told Review that her inspiration for becoming a points duty officer comes from a deep-seated sense of responsibility for the safety of children and pedestrians in general.
“Those are some of the reasons why I went to college and graduated with a three-year diploma in traffic policing before volunteering to assist at Noordskool. I approached the school because I realised that the vital role traffic officers play in preventing accidents is important and I wanted to be part of the solution,” she said.
Morukhuladi is also a businesswoman who makes a living for her three children Moloko (21), Thabile (12) and Ofentse (7). She’s also a guardian who cares for her late sister’s children, Thato (15) and Relebogile (8).
I recently registered my food company, and in the time in-between I sell plasticware, food and fruit to earn a living.
“My goal is to see myself working permanent contributing to a safer environment for people. I have always admired individuals who serve their communities and this role allows me to do exactly that while making a meaningful impact.”
