PEMPS Gr 7 learners taught the importance of inner beauty

Organised by teacher Carol Shilubane, the event aimed to support and uplift the girls as they navigate the transition from primary to high school.

POLOKWANE – Pietersburg English Medium Primary School (PEMPS) Gr 7 girls gathered on August 7 for an event themed around the quote by Shanina Shaik: “No beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart”.

Organised by teacher Carol Shilubane, the event aimed to support and uplift the girls as they navigate the transition from primary to high school.

This initiative, which started in 2023, was created by Shilubane as a safe space for girls to discuss and address the challenges they face.

This year, the event was intentionally scheduled in August to coincide with Women’s Month, adding a special significance to the occasion.

Teacher Angie van Wyhe explained the thoughtful choice of a pink and white colour scheme, symbolising the delicate yet transformative phase the girls are experiencing as they approach their teenage years.

The event also featured guest speaker Olga Brooks, a home educator, music teacher and pastor’s wife, who spoke to the girls about the importance of inner beauty and the value of maintaining their purity until marriage.

In addition to the inspiring talk, the girls participated in creative activities, including designing clothing items from recycled materials.

The highlight was a fashion show where teachers modeled the learners’ creations on the runway, adding an element of fun and creativity to the meaningful event.
