PCS majorette to represent SA in Italy

Babuluki Maphoto earns a spot on South Africa’s majorettes team for the 2025 world championship in Italy and is looking for support.

POLOKWANE – Babuluki Maphoto, a Gr 7 learner from Pietersburg Comprehensive School (PCS), has been selected to represent South Africa at the Italy Majorettes World Federation in September next year. Now, she needs help to make this dream a reality.

To cover meals, flights, and accommodation, Babuluki hopes to raise approximately R50 000. Fundraising efforts will continue throughout this year and into next year to help her reach her goal.

Babuluki’s journey in drum majorettes started in Gr 3 when friends encouraged her to join.

She quickly developed a passion for the sport, appreciating both the physical activity and the sense of camaraderie among the girls. After receiving her provincial colours in October last year, she went on to achieve national colours and earned a coveted spot on the national team – an achievement made even more special by the fact that she is the only athlete from her province to do so.

“It was a tough journey, but my hard work is paying off,” she said. “I don’t know how I’m doing it, but I’m managing to stay on top of my schoolwork while also excelling in drummies.”

Babuluki describes drum majorettes as a challenging but rewarding sport that fosters strong bonds among teammates.

“Drummies is a great space to form a sisterhood and learn from fellow sisters,” she said.

Before heading to Italy, Babuluki will compete in two major events: representing her school in a competition they are hosting in April and participating in the North West National Championships at Hoërskool Wesvalia in July.

To support Babuluki in reaching her fundraising goal, please contact Pietersburg Comprehensive School at 015 291 3174 / 015 295 9607 for more information on how to assist with donations.

Every contribution brings her one step closer to representing her country on the world stage.
