Top MECS learners celebrated for 2025 achievements
Mokopane English Combined School honoured its top Gr 12 achievers at an inspiring awards evening celebrating excellence and farewell traditions.
MOKOPANE – Mokopane English Combined School recently hosted its annual awards ceremony, where Gr 12 learners were honoured for their outstanding academic and sporting achievements throughout the year.
The event was filled with celebration and reflection as the three head prefects took to the stage to share heartfelt speeches, recalling some moments they shared as a grade during their high school journey.
Guest speaker Shaun Hlatshwayo delivered an inspiring message, encouraging them to pursue their dreams with confidence and resilience.
Among the highlights of the evening was the presentation of special awards.
The prestigious Spark Plug Award for 2025 was awarded to Portia Mabude for her energy and enthusiasm.
Qailah Mosam received the Johan Marx award and was also named the Dux learner of the year.

The following learners received trophies:
- Khumo Mokoena – senior archer of the year.
- Qailah Mosam – top achiever in English Home Language, English orals, life orientation and physical science.
- Shaista Kara – top achiever in Afrikaans and Afrikaans mondeling and computer applications technology.
- Mpho Tjotjo – top achiever in mathematics.
- Oratile Modiga – top achiever in mathematical literacy.
- Aliza Abbas – top achiever in life science.
- Andile Maraba – top achiever in business studies.
- Muhammad Ismail – top achiever in geography.
- Boresetse Lelaka – accounting.
After the ceremony, the Gr 12s followed the tradition of leaving their locks behind as they walked through an honorary guard formed by the parents, teachers and the rest of the learners for the last time.
MECS is truly proud of their Gr 12s and wish them al the best for the future.
