Polokwane City Football Club recently announced the appointment of Luc Eymael as their coach for the 2016/17 Premier Soccer League season (PSL) which begins on 21 August.
Eymael replaces Brazilian mentor Julio Leal who left the club last month after his contract was not renewed by the management. He formerly coached AS Vita Football Club in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Belgian international who was appointed last Wednesday is no stranger to the football fraternity as his experience boosts having won numerous championships, leagues and accolades with teams on the African continent.
He won the Democratic Republic of Congo League with AS Vita in 2010, the first league of Gabon with the Missile Football Club and finished fourth in the 2012 season with the same outfit.
Club Spokesperson, Tumelo Makgoara they were looking forward to working with him in the next season.
Makgoara said Club Chairman Johny Mogaladi had welcomed the coach to the province and also that both parties have opted not to disclose the logistics involving the contract.
“He already started with training on Wednesday and the team is responding well to his methods. We are looking forward to the upcoming season,” Makgoara said.
Eymael said he was excited to be associated with a club like Polokwane City Football and he was looking forward to the forthcoming Premier Soccer League season.
“We want to do well in the league next season. Our intention is to compete for major cup competitions in the league and finish in the top eight.”
He thanked Mogaladi for giving him the opportunity to coach his team. “I have always wanted to coach in South Africa and when the opportunity came I did not hesitate because I think PSL is one of the most professional league in Africa.”
In the quest for silverware and glory for next season City has acquired the services of former Witbank Spurs exiting midfielder Thabang Klaas and former Mamelodi Sundowns players Rodney Ramagalela and Walter Maponyane.
“Those are three players we have signed for the upcoming season and we are not going sign anymore players. We are happy with the squad,” stated Makgoara.
He also mentioned that they have released former Bafana Bafana defender, Tlou Molekwane who joined Bloemfontein Celtic last week and Cole Alexander who left the club in May for Super Sport United.
