Limpopo born track star Caster Semenya qualified for the semi-finals of the 800 m for women at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro yesterday (Wednesday) when she convincingly won the second heat of the qualifier.

Semenya’s outstanding performance saw her taking first place in a time of 1:59.31 ensuring her a spot in the semi-finals tomorrow. It is expected that she will not disappoint in the semi-finals in order to represent South Africa in the finals on Sunday.

The current 800 m world record is 1:53:28 with the Olympic record standing at 1:53:43.

South Africans can watch the semi-finals tomorrow morning and the finals on Sunday morning at 02:15.
