Premier Stan Mathabatha and Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Onicca Moloi were among the Black Leopards Football Club supporters who attended the second match of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) promotional play-offs against Jomo Cosmos at Vosloorus Stadium on Sunday.
Leopards came into the match leading the play-offs standings with three points following their 1-0 victory against Platinum Stars Football Club at Thohoyandou Stadium last Wednesday. They were hoping to win the duel in order to strengthen their position but were denied victory when Cosmos held them to a 2-2 draw.
Lidoda Duvha will face Platinum Stars Football Club and Jomo Cosmos in the last leg of the play-offs in the second week of June again.
Managing director of the club, Tshifhiwa Thidiela said they appreciated having the Premier and MEC at their match. “The support from Government, especially from the number one citizen in the province means a lot to the club, the players and the supporters,” he said.
He also stated that they plan to win all their remaining matches in order to reclaim the PSL status which they lost in 2012. “The team is doing well and we are not complaining. The players must just work harder and double their efforts in the remaining matches. We don’t want to disappoint our supporters and everyone who is rallying behind the team,” Thidiela said.
Premier’s Spokesperson, Kenny Mathivha said Mathabatha was at the stadium to support the team and wish them well in their last remaining matches of the play-offs. “He said he would love to see the team campaigning in the in the PSL next season alongside Baroka Fooball Club and Polokwane City Football Club,” Mathivha said.
He added that promotion of Black Leopards to the PSL will benefit local economy in the province. “They have a huge support base. The Thohoyandou Stadium is always full during their home matches. Small businesses and tourism establishments will benefit a lot from that,” Mathivha said.
