The team representing KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) at the 2018 Indigenous Games Festival was crowned champions of the event for the second year in a row at Seshego Stadium on Friday.
The KZN gallery outclassed their opponents in kgati, jukskei, morabaraba, khokho, dibeke, ncuva and intonga to win gold.
Team North West settled for silver while Limpopo walked away with bronze after finishing the games in the third position.
Congratulating KZN and the participating teams, MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Thandi Moraka said the victory did not come easy to the teams and none of the medals were won without sweat. “We want to thank all the teams that participated in the indigenous games. Throughout their stay in Limpopo I am sure they have made a lot of friends. That is the spirit of social cohesion and national identity.”
She thanked the organisers for ensuring that the games were a success. “We could not have pulled off an event of this magnitude without the involvement of each and everyone. From the athletes to those that we often don’t acknowledge, people in the nerve centre, the team managers, and the general managers and to those men and women who kept our kids safe,” Moraka said.
While some results were still being verified at the time of going to press, outcomes were available in the following codes:
Khoko: KZN 14 points, North-West 16 and Limpopo eight.
Kgati: KZN 373 points, North West 378 points and Limpopo 360.
Jukskei: North West 154, KZN 148,8 and Limpopo 143,5.
