Dirt, guts and glory at motocross champs

The competition saw just under 80 riders from across the northern region compete in the Northern Region Motocross Championships last Saturday.

POLOKWANE- It was all dirt, guts, and glory at the Capricorn Racing Club as riders battled it out at the Northern Region Motocross Championships on Saturday.

The competition saw riders from across the northern region compete.

Wayne Berrington-Smith, from the Northern Region Motocross committee explained that they had just under 80 riders taking part on the day, which is a lesser number than they saw in Gauteng, but that they anticipated more entries in the future.

“We would like to grow the number and make people aware of motocross as a sport. We have to change the mindset of the people and make this a destination track and not just a racing event. We also need to make people aware that this sport caters for everyone, regardless of age and gender,” he said.

He urged locals to come on board, so that future events can see more rider compete, have more spectators and see more food stalls added to the overall experience.

The championship resort under Motorsport South Africa (MSA) and the Northern Region Motocross is a subcommittee of MSA.

It is recognised by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee, a governing body that issues provincial and national colours across all sporting codes.
