Pirates left in United’s dust
Supersport United have claimed another victory when they booted Orlando Pirates out of the Nedbank Cup and ended Pirates'13-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 victory.
POLOKWANE – ONLY a month after ending Kaizer Chiefs’ unbeaten run in the PSL with a 2-0 victory, Supersport United have claimed another victory when they booted Orlando Pirates out of the Nedbank Cup and ended Pirates’13-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 victory.
This came courtesy of Jeremy Brockie’s 77th minute volley.
The match was played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.
Matsatsantsa a Pitori, whose last match at the Pester Mokaba Stadium ended in a 2-0 loss against Ajax Cape Town, were out to rekindle their dominance.
Not even the load shed-ding that delayed the kick-off by 15 minutes could stop Gordon Igesund’s men from marching into the quarter-finals of the Nedbank cup.
Stage three load shedding left sup-porters and players in the dark for 15 minutes, with the Polokwane municipal director of community development, Ndavhe Ramakuela writing on his Facebook page: “What a nightmare, our stadium generators failed at a crucial time”.
Once the lights went on again, the patient supporters were treated to quality football, although they witnessed only one goal.
With United through to the quarter-finals, and with a fair number of local supporters getting behind the Pretoria-based club, Peter Mokaba Stadium stands a chance to host yet another Nedbank Cup clash.
Supersport United re-gently partnered with Polokwane Royals FC and has opened a new supporters’ branch in Westenburg.
