Arm wrestlers flex muscles at national tournament

Arm wrestlers from around the country gathered at Tom Naudé Technical High School to compete in the National Money Event Arm wrestling Championships on Saturday.

POLOKWANE – Arm wrestlers from around the country gathered at Tom Naudé Technical High School to compete in the National Money Event Arm wrestling Championships on Saturday.

According to Danie Fourie, a Lynx Limpopo Arm wrestling Club member and tournament organiser, the championships only catered for top armwrestlers from across South Africa.

However, athletes from some of the provinces could not make it to the tournament.

Fourie said athletes competed in various categories such as u/75 kg, 90kg plus and open class.

“The tournament was a success and all the athletes aimed to win. Athletes received cash prizes and medals for their hard work.

“I weigh 89kg, but I competed against athletes in the 90kg plus category because I needed a challenge,” said Fourie.

He added that if one wanted to beat the best, they should train with the best to learn from them. Fourie further said experience also counted a lot and urged athletes to train hard to become the best.

Limpopo arm wrestlers won the u/75kg and the 90kg plus challenges.

Fourie invited anyone who was interested in arm wrestling to join the club.

He said people could visit Tom Naudé on Monday evenings from 18:00 to attend the training sessions.
