Ultimate showstopper

The 10-time supermoto and trials champion, Brian Capper, says he feels he has accomplished everything he wanted to accomplish in supermoto.

POLOKWANE – The 10-time supermoto and trials champion, Brian Capper, says he feels he has accomplished everything he wanted to accomplish in supermoto.

Now that he feels more mature as a rider, he has set his sights on the enduro competition. “I want to win a title or five there,” he says.

When he has a bit of free time, he likes to spend it entertaining crowds with his gravity defying extreme riding exhibitions, much like he did at the Polokwane Show recently.

Capper began his affair with horsepower at the age of nine, and went on to win his first national title at the Outdoor Footup Trials Arena when he was 17-years-old.

His extraordinary throttle control and balance led him to the world trials stage, where despite injury, he came seventh in the championships chase. But his most valuable acquisition was the concept of an extreme trials riding exhibition.

At the Polokwane Show, he urged visitors to try to balance his bike as long as they could while he demonstrated that it took a lot of years to manage balancing for a complete show like his, which lasts for over 30 minutes without placing his foot down while performing wild and exciting tricks at the same time.

Capper’s limited free time is saturated with training, mental preparation and getting race-ready. He considers his body a weapon and spends hours sharpening his skills.

“I spend a lot of time cycling and riding motorcycle,” he says.

“For me, those two are the most important. I ride motocross and supermoto, hit the gym, and go swimming. Every few months I do a brutal training camp with my trainer. It is a huge part of my mental preparation, as we spend a lot of time visualising the race and where the best lines will be.”

He says being at the Polokwane Show brought him closer to the excitement he feels when riding as the atmosphere in the city drives him to do better and better and pushes him to go further and further each year he comes to the show.
