Winds of change sweep through local baskeball
Prior to the start of the 2016 Limpopo Basketball Association (Liba) senior Limpopo, the words boredom and basketball were painfully synonymous
LIMPOPO – The winds of change are sweeping across the playing courts, much to the excitement of the legion of the game’s devotees.
Since the commencement of the swashbuckling entertainment on 28 February, the courts have been the altars of conviction where the game’s worshippers have been performing the rituals of the game.
Thank heavens for megastars and upstarts who are now keeping the basketball flame ablaze as it was witnessed during the events that unfolded at the Tshwane University of Technology on Sunday.
Since the 11 teams affiliated with Liba sprung into action, there have rising stars who are providing a glimmer of hope for the future of the provincial.
Seshego Sonics A are campaigning in this league solidly entrenched as the reigning kings and the bragging rights they enjoy remain unsurpassable.
The fulcrum of the team, Boyo Mashile has reiterated the team’s intention to tear down any opponent that threatens to dethrone them from their status.
“We have fought gallantly to achieve our position last season. There will be no slip ups even this time around as we want to hang onto this position. Our line of attack hasn’t changed much yet there is always room for change,” said Mashile.
Liba chairperson Gazani Khoza says they are staging league games every weekend to keep senior players in good shape as the start of the National Basketball League now looms large.
“If we can maintain a higher standard during league matches and club tournaments within the province, we will continue with the same momentum in the national league. As a province we want to improve far much better compared to last year’s performance,” said Khoza.
This Saturday, the crème de la cream of domestic basketball will converge at Nirvana for the trials of the senior provincial side, Limpopo Pride.
