1-1 draw for Lidoda Duvha

Jomo Cosmos owner and head coach, Jomo Sono says it will take a strong National First Division (NFD) team to beat his team.

LIMPOPO – Sono uttered these words shortly after his team played to a 1-1 draw with Black Leopards at the Thohoyandou Stadium last week.

He said he is happy with the results and it is not easy to get a point in Thohoyandou.

“We could have won the game. My boys were all over the place and I believe they will fight harder in the coming games to return to the Premier Soccer League next season.”

Black Leopards coach, Jairos Tapera said his team has improved, compared to their performance during their opening match against AmaZulu two weeks ago in Durban.

He said the team still has room for improvement.

Lidoda Duvha’s Zambian striker Mwape Musonda netted a goal in the sixth minute of the match, and his team continued to dominate the first-half. The home-side played an organised game but lacked ambition and did not make any worthy attempts to crack Ezinkosi’s defense, as Sipho Mngomeuzulu and Ange Dahou Lebahi were solid at the back.

It was still 1-0 with Leopards in the lead at half-time but Ezinkosi’s left wingers Linda Mntambo and Wiseman Maluleke came into the second half with fierce intent.

They terrorised Leopards’ left and right back, leaving Djunga Jean Munganga under extreme pressure. The visitors fought until they scored an equalising goal courtesy of Brice Aka in the 54th minute of the match. Cosmos added more pressure as Lidoda Duvha’s defense was shaky but Mngomeuzulu and Nkanyiso Madonsela missed brilliant chances.

Although the match ended in a 1-1 draw, Leopards fans were impressed by the team’s performance.

In Cape Town, Magesi FC beat the homeside, Cape Town FC by 3-2 on Saturday. Magesi are sitting comfortably in seventh place while Leopards are in 12th place on the NFD log.
