2nd Bakone trophy looms
After the success of the inaugural Bakone Soccer Tournament in December last year in Ga-Dikgale, the organisers have decided to up the ante for the second Bakone Soccer Tournament.
POLOKWANE – Last year, the tournament catered to 16 soccer teams but this year, 32 teams will bump heads on the pitch at Mokgopo Shining Stars FC Sports ground in a bid to be named the ultimate soccer champions.
According to tournament organiser, Ben Mashao, the aim of organising this tournament which will take place in December, is to take the children off the streets to eradicate crime in the area and show community members that through sport they can make something of themselves.
He said, “Invitations will be extended to all the residents of Ga-Dikgale and surrounding areas. We will also invite professional players who play in various soccer leagues in South Africa.”
He said they will also invite professional coaches and soccer scouts to search for talent.
He added that this is a good platform for amateur players to showcase their talent.
Mashao urged amateur soccer players to prepare thoroughly for the tournament to stand a chance of being selected and join professional soccer teams.
“It is also my dream to see one or two players from rural areas playing in the Premier Soccer League one day,” he said.
This tournament will start on 16 December with the finals taking place on 30 December. Teams are required to affiliate with R1 600 and soccer fanatics will pay R10 to watch the games.
The second annual Bakone Soccer Tournament is sponsored by Boston City Campus, the Dis-Chem Foundation and is supported by Innovative Glass Design, MYMYF, MoxonD3, Re-Saya and PM Marketing and Events.
Prizes:
• First place: 20 x Gold medals, R22 000, Trophy, and a full soccer kit.
• Second place: 20 x Silver Medals, R12 500, and a full soccer kit.
• Third place: 20 x Bronze Medals, R8 500, and a full soccer kit.
• Fourth place: R6 500 and a full soccer kit.
• Fifth to eight place finishers: R3 000.
Individual prizes:
• Player of the Tournament: One-year bursary from Boston City Campus worth R20 000.
• Goalkeeper of the Tournament trophy.
• Top Goal Scorer: MYMYF six months Learnership programme worth R35 000.
• Players Player of the Tournament: MYMYF six-months learnership programme worth R35 000.
