Supportive coaches, parents, family and friends gathered poolside on 28 January to encourage the swimmers who competed for the honour to be part of the team that has represented Limpopo so swimmingly in previous competitions.

Limpopo Schools Swimming Chairperson, Adrie Booysen, said that despite being landlocked, Limpopo boasts some of the best swimmers in the country.

“Limpopo’s swimmers did extremely well in 2015 at the nationals. One of the swimmers, who was a cut above the rest, is Ude Fuchs who was named the best individual performer. Another swimmer who shone is Sunet van der Merwe, who was awarded the best high school swimmer.

“We have great expectations for this year’s competition as we definitely have some outstanding swimmers in the selection pool,” Booysens said.

Some of the local schools that competed included Höerskool Pietersburg, PEPPS Preparatory School and College, Mitchell House, Laerskool Pietersburg-Oos and Curro Heuwelkruin.
