Sasol brings women’s soccer to Limpopo
Residents were treated to some non-stop women's soccer action in the third Sasol League provincial roadshow.
POLOKWANE – Fans of the sport were in for a treat at the University of Limpopo on Saturday, 23 June as the roadshow entailed a full round of Limpopo Sasol League fixtures and was preceded by a coaches’ workshop facilitated by Sasol Banyana Banyana head coach, Desiree Ellis.

The workshop was designed to take local coaches through the ins and outs of player scouting, with the aim to raise the standard of women’s soccer.
“The Limpopo Sasol League roadshow was a resounding success. It not only helped shine a spotlight on the province through a festival of women’s football, it gave myself and local coaches the opportunity to take a close look at the talent on display.
“I must commend Sasol and the South African Football Association on the scouting initiative which has been put in place this season. I cannot wait to see what we spot in upcoming Sasol League roadshows around South Africa,” Ellis said.
At the workshop, Ellis took the local Sasol League coaches through the physical, tactical, technical and mental attributes they should look for, and encourage, in each position.
She then joined the coaches for the next day’s fixtures, helping them implement their newly acquired skills while assessing and monitoring up-and-coming individuals for potential Banyana Banyana inclusion.
In the weekend’s fixtures, the standout game for the day was MaIndies Ladies FC and Botlokwa Ladies FC where Banyana Banyana players, Noko Matlou and Lebogang Ramalepe, proved themselves and showed off their skills. Things also got heated as Mandebele Happy Fighters FC tried to score an equaliser against the Kanatla Ladies FC, who have been part of the national championships.
