Coach Danny just wants to see children excel

Soccer coach, Danny Seabi, has decided it is the right thing to do to give back to his community.

POLOKWANE – Seabi, from Seshego and residing in Flora Park, obtained a certificate for Coaching Development Programme from the South African Football Association (Safa) in 2017 and these days, he finds himself coaching soccer at PEMPS, Noorderland, Little Toddler Pre-school as well as a list of other pre-schools in Polokwane.

Growing up, he attended primary school at PCS and went to Hoërskool Westenburg, matriculating in 2005.

“After completing matric, I went to college in Polokwane to study tourism and foreign exchange accountancy, and completed both courses in 2006, but I later realised that it wasn’t the career path I wanted to pursue,” he told BONUS.

After applying for jobs after varsity, Danny was appointed at Northern Academy as an assistant teacher for life orientation in 2009, before moving on toe Capricorn High School and PCS as athletics and cross country coach in mid-2010.

“That was when I really enjoyed working because I knew I belonged in the sports industry. When I was in PCS, I was 12 years old, trying my hand at soccer. I realised that it must have been there where I fell in love with the sport,” he added.

While working as a coach, Danny furthered his studies in sports management.

Aside from schools, Danny coaches at the Nubian Kings Football Academy, First Friday Football Club and several youth teams within Premier Soccer League.

“I feel that my talent was God-given, and through the soccer skills that I pass on to the kids, I want to see them excel in sport, to be able to show the world what they’re capable of.”

He explains that with sport, he can achieve a lot in getting children off the streets.

He gives advice on what it takes to be a good coach: “As a coach, one has to to have patience and never give up. Lead by example, whether it’s on or off the field. Time must be respected, and study through the coaching courses through all the levels to keep growing”.
