City and Leopards in Limpopo derby

Peter Mokaba Stadium will host the hotly-contested Limpopo derby, when Polokwane City host Black Leopards in the Absa Premier League on Sunday.

POLOKWANE – City currently lays in the sixth position on the log, with Leopards on the 12th spot. The teams resume play this weekend after a three weak break. In their last outings before the break, City played to a draw with Cape Town City and Leopards beat Chippa United 3-2. City come into the match seeking revenge, after their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Leopards in their first round match August last year.

Rise and Shine coach, Jozef Vukusic said they are gunning to collect maximum points. “I know a match of this magnitude has tension and pressure. I would like all that tension and pressure to stay with us and the technical team. If we invest all the quality and talent we have, we will get the result we’re looking for. Our job is to ensure the players are equally focused for the match.” he said.

Leopards coach, Dylan Kerr said his players are going to win the match at all cost. “We need to be very careful. You can study the form of City in their matches, but the derby is another story. It’s always different in the derby,” he said.

He added: “Things happen differently than in a normal game. It’s also a matter of pride for the province. It’s a question of determination; it’s a question of fighting spirit. We have to focus on us and not look at the table, we both want to we win and need to start well.” Another struggling Limpopo team, Baroka will travel to play against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Baroka coach, Wedson Nyirenda was escorted from the stadium, when the supporters were baying for his blood after they lost 1-0 to Golden Arrows.

Baroka are in a dangerous spot, second from bottom. It won’t be an easy match against Chiefs. “We need to show character. We need to raise our heads and come back strong and make up for the three points we lost,” said Nyirenda. He concluded by saying his players promised to rectify their mistakes.
