39 Runners take on Limpopo’s Tlhotlhokwe run

The annual Tlhotlhokwe Marathon took place in Bolobedu outside Modjadjiskloof on Saturday.

LIMPOPO – The 27-year-old Jacob Malefo ended as this year’s overall winner.

Malefo completed the 15 km race, which started at Senopela Clinic in Ga-Matipane and ended at Tlhotlhokwe village, in a record time of 48 minutes.

Remaketse Lekaka (19) ended second in the men’s category, after he finished the race in 50 minutes. Meanwhile, Manganyi Believe (35) crossed the finish line in 51 minutes and ended in third place.

Malefo walked away with a floating trophy, R2 000 cash prize and a medal. Lekaka and Manganyi received a cash prize of R1 400 and R1 000 respectively, as well as medals.

In the female category, the veteran runner, Jane Mudau (57) from Venda, emerged victorious after she completed the race in one hour and six minutes. She was followed by Leah Ramalepe (31), who completed her run in one hour and 11 minutes. Cynthia Ramosibudi (41) finished in third place with a time of one hour and 13 minutes.

Remaketse Lekaka emerged victorious in the youth category, with a time of 52 minutes, and was followed by Vasnath Ngobeni and Dzunani Baloyi.

The 50-year-old Ramukhula Reckson won the master’s category after completing the marathon in 56 minutes. Sedume Ramatsi (56) ended second with a time of one hour and 10 minutes and Ngwako Mahlatji (55) ended third with a time of one hour and 16 minutes.

Bolobedu police cop, Samuel Maswanganyi (60), completed the marathon in one hour and 10 minutes and won the grand master’s category. He was followed by David Mohale (67) with a time of one hour and 20 minutes.

The 73-year-old Reuben Mamanyoga was the only one crowned in the great grand master’s category after he completed the race in one hour and 55 minutes.

According to Stanley Mabulana, one of the organisers, a total number of 39 athletes from different parts of the country participated in the marathon.
