Pedal success for Monene
Monene Mailula, a member of the Seshego Cycling Club, describes herself as an enthusiastic aerobic and fitness fanatic who has been an active member of the Seshego Cycling Club since 2018.
POLOKWANE – The Seshego Zone 2 resident says she was introduced to cycling by her father and coach, Raymond, who is also active in the sport, and says it is wonderful to see more women getting involved. Monene told BONUS that many people in her community are not used to female cyclists as they believe the sport is only for men, but this didn’t stop her from enjoying the sport.
“I do not give in to cheap talk because when you are passionate about something, you won’t let anyone talk you out of it,” she said. She has advised other women, who wish to start cycling, to always give their best as it is a physically challenging sport, but with determination, anything is possible. To date, Monene has participated in six cycling competitions, averaging in the top five in most of them. She has taken part in the Makhulu Five, Lentetrap, Mooketsi MTB Challenge and the Munnik Meerkat MTB Challenge.
