Old Cappies cricketers invited to 6’s tourney
The Capricorn High School Old Scholars 6's Cricket Festival will not only launch the Capricorn High Sports Alumni Association but also aims to raise funds to refurbish the cricket facilities and hire a full-time coach.
POLOKWANE – The Future Stars Group (FSG) will host the first annual Capricorn High School Old Scholars 6’s Cricket Festival.
Penned for July 29, the organiser Sedibu Mohlaba said he has been toying with the idea for a few years and that the time felt right to give it a go after conversations with alumni.
“It is a solo project through my company FSG but I do have a people behind the scenes assisting me. With that said, we encourage people to partner with us on this first of many events,” he explained.

Mohlaba has an extensive history with Capricorn High School as an alumni and former captain of the first cricket team. This initiative was important to him because he likes to assist places that have helped shape his life in a positive way.
“The state of the school’s cricket facilities is not great at all to say the least. I spent a lot of time at the nets and oval and to see it deteriorate like it has does not make me happy, hence the effort to restore what was once the best cricket field in the province,” he said.
The Old Scholars 6’s Cricket Festival is aimed at raising funds for the school in order to refurbish the cricket nets, cricket pitch and outfield. The funds will also go towards hiring a full-time coach as well as to launch the Capricorn High Sports Alumni Association.
“The association will be open to everyone who went to the school and would like to contribute to uplift what once was one of the best schools in the province, sports-facility wise. I have spoken to former scholars who played various sporting codes who are keen. I am a cricket lover through and through and I though about the tournament to get the ball rolling. We are looking to incorporate other codes next year so this becomes a sports festival to assist the school with facility maintenance among others,” he said.
FSG is a sports events and marketing company that has hosted several events such as the Seshego 6’s Challenge and a high-performance cricket camps, among others.
“Our main goal is to introduce sports festivals throughout the province to assist in social cohesion, interaction and raise the profile of sports. We hope to partner up with municipalities and government to roll out these programs,” he said.
