Sport stars bag 2 titles
Several learners from Northern Academy Secondary School as well as from the college lately made names for themselves on the sports fields.
POLOKWANE – These learners from Curro Northern Academy, which is part of the Curro Schools, excelled earlier the year at the Curro Regional Tournaments. After these regional events, the learners were selected for regional teams.
Northern Academy competes under the Jacaranda region and its learners were selected to represent the Jacaranda region at the Curro National Tournament which was held in Cape Town this year.
The sporting codes that are being participated in at the Curro National Tournament are rugby, soccer, hockey and netball. The age groups taking part are the u/15 and u/18 groups.
Learners who were chosen to represent the Curro Jacaranda region at the Curro National Tournament:
• Pule Maboea – u/18 rugby.
• Wilson Bopape – u/18 rugby.
• Glen Malesa – u/15 soccer.
• Itumeleng Mphahlele – u/15 soccer.
• Malesela Kwebu – u/18 soccer.
• Austin Ngobeni – u/18 soccer.
• Gerald Mothiba – u/18 soccer.
• Ignatius Mohale – u/18 soccer.
Not only did the learners excel on the sports fields, but so did the coaches. Three of Northern Academy’s personnel were also chosen to represent the respective Curro Jacaranda regional teams in Cape Town.
They are:
• Hendrick Mukwevho – u/15 soccer coach.
• Orphan Mfuloane – u/18 soccer coach.
• Lentsa Motau – u/18 netball team manager.
Northern Academy’s u/13 soccer team won this year’s Curro Regional Tournament in April. For this achievement, the team represented Curro’s Jacaranda region at the Curro soccer national tournament at the Curro Hazeldean College in Pretoria this past weekend and emerged victorious yet again, a truly remarkable achievement.
